The operating Engineer will work closely with the Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineer to conduct daily maintenance throughout One Bryant Park. The operating Engineer will also conduct special projects as assigned.

One Bryant Park is a 2.35 million square foot, 51 story office tower completed in 2010.

Setting a new standard in sustainable commercial construction, this tower was the first skyscraper in North America to achieve LEED Platinum and ranks among the most environmentally advanced skyscrapers in the world. Building features include an urban garden room, a 4.6 megawatt combined heat and power plant, an ice cooling system, a building-wide water reclamation system, green roofs that utilize compost from tenant cafeteria waste, state-of-the-art advanced air filtration for exceptional indoor air quality, destination dispatch elevator control and dedicated backup emergency generators.



Monday through Friday: 12 midnight to 8 am


Saturday & Sunday: Off




  • In a safe manner, start up, regulate, repair and shut down equipment
  • Ensure equipment operates safely and within established limits by monitoring attached meters, gauges and computerized controls
  • Use of hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance ranging from a complete overhaul to replacing valves, gaskets, motors, pumps, or bearings in a safe manner
  • Record relevant events and facts concerning operation and maintenance in an equipment log
  • Audit safety device and identify and troubleshoot any problem areas
  • Test and chemically treat hydronic systems to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned including working within the cogeneration plant.



Areas of Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Minimum 2+ years as operating engineer in high-rise commercial building
  • Fire Safety Director Certification
  • Sprinkler/Standpipe Certification
  • Air Compressor Certification
  • BMS and control experience
  • EPA Universal Certification ; Experience with Steam and Electrical Systems and Sprinkler Standpipe Systems
  • Knowledge of other Fire Safety systems
  • Minimum of one year’s basic electrical experience – that encompassed minor troubleshooting and wiring
  • Minimum of one year’s plumbing experience – bathroom repair, soldering, pipe threading
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, and lift up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis, enter and operate in confined spaces, operate power tools.
  • Ability to work with exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, or chemicals.



Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid New York City Fire Department Refrigeration Machine Operator License with a minimum of one year’s continuous experience
